Rules:
Follow them. Simple, really.
Follow them. Simple, really.
Multiverse Unlimited is an Intermediate-Advanced Role-Playing Community. While we do not turn away inexperienced role-players, we do ask that those new to the hobby adhere to the standards this community endorses. Those new to role-playing may refer to our Role-Playing Tips guide.
Account-Specific Rules
Character Creation: To make it obvious as to which character you are RPing as, a separate account should be made to represent each character you play. ProBoards has no limitations as to how many user accounts you are allowed to sign up with, and it only takes a minute to do so. The only exception is if multiple characters are a logical permanent set, in which case they may be played from a single account. If you are unsure, feel free to ask. We’re happy to help.
Accepted Characters: Any character from literature, films, television, animation (including, but not limited to, anime), comics, and video games are allowed, as well as original creations and fan characters. Just about any character from any source is permitted. Fan characters must be applied for (see below). For all other characters, other than fan characters, there is no application process, and you may begin posting as your character immediately. Rather than make a tedious application process, we believe in giving new members the benefit of the doubt and in only correcting their errors when and if they arise.
Fan-Made Characters: Fan characters are accepted on the grounds that they are balanced, believable additions to the franchise they represent. Absolutely no Mary Sue characters are permitted. All fan-made characters are subject to approval by an administrator, and may not be played until they are reviewed and approved.
Original Characters: Original characters which are not fan characters from any particular franchise are encouraged so long as they adhere to the other rules and guidelines. It is strongly encouraged that all original characters be given a profile on the site so that other members can better orient themselves with your creation.
Duplicate Characters: Even though MU has alternate realities and versions to numerous worlds, having multiple accounts representing alternate versions of the same character would become too confusing. The only instance in which this is allowed is if the said characters are logically different people. For example, the classic Mega Man, Mega Man X, and MegaMan Trigger are all different characters, even though they are all Mega Man, so they can all be played separately. An example of what's not allowed is to, for example, create Evil Ryu when someone already role-plays as Ryu, because they are still the same person.
General Rules
Typing Finesse: Posters are expected to type-out in-character posts in a professional and legible manner. Net talk, chat lingo, text faces, and smiley emoticons are not permitted in in-character posts. Proper grammar and punctuation are also desirable within our community. And always remember; the 'Spell Check' button available at the bottom of every message is your friend, and browsers such as FireFox also have their own spell check options by default. Note: This rule does not apply to out-of-character posts.
Act In-Character: This means that you must act in your character’s own personality, and make decisions based on how they would, to the best of your ability and grasp of the character in question, interpret and react to each and every situation as it is presented. Please remain in-character while role-playing at all times. If you have your character behave in any way other than how they’re portrayed in their original source material, then you are disrespecting the character and its creator(s) by extension.
Post Length Minimum: Multiverse Unlimited is an Intermediate to Advanced role-playing community. Posts should be detailed, informative, and, above all, interesting and entertaining to read for other members. One-liners, vague and uninspired posts, and single-sentence posts are frowned upon. You needn’t write a novel-length post, though it needs to actually be constructive and professional. A post comprised solely of: 'So-and-so blinked "Yeah I think I have" He answered' is unacceptable, and uninteresting. It also gives other posters practically nothing to work with when making his or her next post in response. There is no pre-set character limit for each post, but take a look at the posting habits of staff members and other regulars to get a grasp on what is expected of you. If your post is even shorter than the word count which comprises this rule, you’re doing something wrong.
Read Prior to Posting: When joining in on a thread, it is a requirement that you read and comprehend what is occurring within the thread. You cannot simply 'skim' through a thread and then join without fully understanding what is happening; you need to be well versed in what is occurring within the plot in order to make an appropriate post. If your post shows signs that you have not read the thread fully, due to incorrect information contained within your post which does not match up to what is going on, then you will either be asked to edit your post (upon reading the thread as intended), or the post will be deleted outright.
OOC: This is more of a guideline than a rule, but try and keep OOC in RP topics to a bare minimum. If plot development or other discussions regarding an active RP need to be addressed please do so via PM, the OOC board, e-mail, or other similar means. Do not ever make a post in a role-playing thread which consists solely of OOC; or, if you need to, edit or delete such posts after they have been read by the intended party.
Catch Up: If you’re in an active thread with multiple people, give everyone a fair chance to post. Don’t leave another member’s character in the dust while you and someone else RP back and forth. Give them a chance to react, too.
Time Clause: If you RP as a licensed character and are inactive, then that character can be up for grabs by another member. There’s no point in a character being taken if you don’t plan on using them while another RPer has to miss out. If you don’t post as a character within a period of thirty days, and another RPer expresses interest in playing that character, then the rights to that character will be given to them, unless the original poster has a legitimate reason for not posting as that character. Characters will not be held accountable for the time clause if their lack of posting is through no fault of their own. Also note that posting in OOC does not count as RPing as that character!
Double Posting: Don’t do it. Unless under certain circumstances, such as adding an additional page to a solo topic (such as an independent writings, character profiles, etc.) then there should be no reason to double post. If you later think of something you’d like to add, just edit your last existing post and add to it rather than posting a new message.
God-Like Characters: We’ve all seen them. The all-powerful character that never takes damage and who can destroy an entire city using one eyelash. We try to keep that in check here. Certain liberties can be taken based on the nature of the character (some will obviously be stronger than others), but keep it tolerable. For example, a character such as Dr. Manhattan would obviously be very powerful, though it’s in-character for him to be as such. But this doesn’t imply that his player would be permitted to go around blowing other characters into pulp with but a glance. If a very powerful character needs to be made as a challenge for a plot or event, it must be discussed with admins and is subject to approval. For overpowered characters, posting limitations are also often enforced.
God-Moding: This term can apply to those who control the actions of another player’s character without prior consent. You may only control the actions of your own characters, with the only exception being that you received permission from the other player to take poetic license of their character for story purposes. But again, let me repeat: unless you got previous permission from the player, controlling the actions of other member’s characters is not allowed.
If you have any questions, feel free to message any available staff member.
